Publication fee

The Publication Fee (PF) for this journal is ZAR312.00 [excluding VAT] per A4 output page in PDF format for an accepted manuscript. This PF will be valid for the calendar year 2012 and may be changed at any time at the sole discretion of the publisher.

Galley Change Fees (GCF)

The Galley Change Fee per hour: ZAR350.00 [excluding VAT]
Authors will be given the opportunity to revise and approve the text of the accepted manuscript in the final phase of copyediting. After author approval the manuscript will go to design layout. The author will be asked to proofread the final galleys before going to publishing. Proofreading is intended to correct typesetting mistakes and not to introduce new changes to the text; as such changes will require new layout of the pages. The publisher will charge GFC to the author, based on the cost incurred to make such changes. We strongly advise authors to review the copy-edited manuscript thoroughly to avoid dissapointment.

 Why charge a publication fee?

Publishing with Open Access is not without costs. AOSIS OpenJournals defrays those costs from Publications Fees (PF), because it does not have subscription charges for its research content. We believe that information should be available immediately and should appear worldwide. These Open Access principles will ensure that the research is barrier-free and is inevitably in the best interest of the scientific community and the public at large.

Who will be responsible for the payment of the publication fee?

The submitting author is responsible for the payment of the PF. The submitting author must confirm, at the time of submission, that they will organise payment should the article be accepted for publication. This responsibility may not be delegated to any third party unless agreed to by the publisher.

When do I pay the publication fee?

Following peer review, once a manuscript has received editorial acceptance in principle, the PF becomes payable, and formatting checks (copyediting, layout and proofreading) on the manuscript will commence. Once these are completed, and full payment of the PF has been received, the article will be published online. AOSIS OpenJournals  will send an invoice to the corresponding author, asking for payment.

On receiving an invoice, by when do you need to make payment?

The PF is due within at most 30 days of the manuscript receiving editorial acceptance in principle of which you will receive an invoice. Payment can be made by Credit Card Payment, Electronic Funds Transfer, or Check. Prompt payment is advised, as the article will not be published until full payment is received. If payment is done by electronic funds transfer from a non-South African bank account, the submitting author will be responsible for any bank transfer charges at the time of the transaction. In all cases a receipt will be sent by email once payment has been received.

I can't pay the publication fee. What do I do?

Authors may apply for waiver of the PF, which may be granted at the sole discretion of the publisher and Editor-in-Chief. It is our policy that PF should not prevent the publication of exceptionally worthy work. Only when your manuscript has passed the peer review stage and has been accepted for publication, will you be advised to make contact with the Editor-in-Chief regarding a possible waiver of the PF.

Who can I contact regarding my payment?

Please contact Ms Mary Byron of the Finance Department at AOSIS OpenJournals at the following email: mary_AT_aosis.co.za  (Please replace _AT_ with @ before attempting to email the department).
